What are some good Christian films and shows you’d suggest to anyone? So much of it feels cheaply made, and it’s the kind of thing I would never recommend to friends outside the church.

My grandmother used to say, ‘If you’re going to do something for the Lord, do it with excellence’ and I think about that constantly when I see what’s coming out now… I wish we had more quality Christian programming.

There are good ones out there. The Chosen, Silence, The Tree of Life, Of Gods and Men.

Of Gods and Men was made on a shoestring and it’s one of the most moving films about faith I’ve seen. The problem with most Christian productions is they start with the sermon and work backward to the story, so the characters never feel like people. The films that hold up are the ones willing to sit in the doubt without rushing to tie a bow on it. I’m not sure I want more Christian programming though. I’d rather see more Christians making honest art.

A lot of the best movies about faith and redemption don’t get marketed as faith-based at all.

I brought Babette’s Feast to a movie night once with some friends who weren’t Christians, and the conversation afterward about grace and generosity went way deeper than I expected. A Hidden Life and The Mission are both good. Chariots of Fire too, and The Tree of Life if you have the patience for it. The 1977 Jesus of Nazareth still holds up as a series (see [this thread](https://forum.victoriousinprayer.com/t/your-top-jesus-film-or-tv-show-picks/441)).

Call the Midwife. Belief shows up in ordinary work and it never feels cheap.

The Prince of Egypt too, the music and animation still hold up.
