I treated the tithe like a cover charge. Ten percent went in the plate, and in my head the other ninety was mine to do whatever I wanted with. [How Do You Tithe?](https://forum.victoriousinprayer.com/t/how-do-you-tithe/1674)

When I finally did what you’re describing and sat down with the actual budget, I had to admit some things. A lot of what I’d been calling fixed wasn’t fixed, it was habit. Upgrades I’d gotten used to. Subscriptions I’d stopped noticing. Meanwhile I was carrying a credit card balance I didn’t like thinking about, my faithful little tithe made it easier not to look at it.

Stewardship doesn’t stop at the offering. The groceries, the rent, the debt payments, the money I send my mom every month are all part of the same question. Looking at that will show some people they can give a lot more than 10%, while for others getting out from under debt is the faithful thing for this season.

So to the original poster, don’t let any percentage like 10 or 15 become what stops you from asking.
