Francis Thompson’s ‘The Hound of Heaven’ is where I’d start. It follows someone who keeps running from God, and by the end the chase feels like love.

Eliot’s ‘Journey of the Magi’ would be a good next step. It makes the birth of Christ sound hard and strange.

Wendell Berry’s Sabbath poems (collected in ‘A Timbered Choir’) are much quieter. Good for the weeks when you want ordinary fields and work to [point you back toward God](https://forum.victoriousinprayer.com/t/where-to-start-reading-the-bible/1701).
