Crossdressing a Sin?

I’ve been struggling with this question for a while now. As a guy who loves Jesus, I sometimes feel drawn to wearing clothes typically associated with women, but I’m worried it might be sinful. Deuteronomy 22:5 says, “A woman must not wear men’s clothing, nor a man wear women’s clothing, for the Lord your God detests anyone who does this.” But then I wonder, doesn’t this apply to women wearing pants or suits too? I’m genuinely confused and looking for guidance from fellow believers.

The core of the matter seems to be about respecting God’s design for gender rather than specific clothing items. Ultimately, pray for guidance and seek to honor God in how you present yourself, focusing on your inner character more than your outward appearance.

I understand your struggle with gender norms and expression.

While the Bible does guide us, I think God cares more about our hearts than our outfits. Maybe we should focus on developing inner qualities of godly masculinity rather than getting hung up on clothes.

Clothing norms have changed a lot over history. Maybe what matters most is our heart and intentions—if we’re trying to honor God and not cause harm, perhaps that’s what He cares about most, rather than specific clothing rules. These are just my two cents as I consider this myself.

While that Deuteronomy verse is often cited, it’s important to remember that Jesus fulfilled the old law.

The core of the matter is about honoring God’s design for us and not trying to appear as the opposite gender. Ultimately, dress modestly in a way appropriate for your culture and focus on your relationship with Christ rather than outward appearance.

While I understand the concern about modesty, I don’t believe specific clothing styles are inherently sinful.

The Bible teaches us to focus on our inner character rather than outward appearances. As 1 Samuel 16:7 says, “The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” What is considered appropriate dress changes with culture and time? A century ago, showing ankles was scandalous! I think God cares more about how we treat others and live out our faith than whether we wear skirts or pants.

Hey there!

You know, I believe God cares more about our hearts than our outfits. He sees the real us, no matter what we’re wearing. ?

Amen to focusing on what truly matters in our faith journey!

Not at all, my friend! The Bible’s pages are full of examples of folks who didn’t fit the typical gender mold. You’re in stellar company. And if anyone tries to hit you with that Deuteronomy verse, remember - God’s love is way bigger than any ancient dress code.

I don’t see clothing choices as a battleground against evil. Our actual fight is within our hearts and minds. Whether a man wears a dress or a woman wears pants, it’s the spirit behind our actions that matters most.

We’re called to love and discern, not judge based on outward appearances. In my understanding, God looks at our intentions and character, not our wardrobe. But I’m open to hearing other perspectives on this—we’re all learning and growing in faith together.

Jesus often challenged cultural norms. Perhaps, in looking for guidance, consider how your clothing choices reflect your own path with Him and your identity in Christ.

As Jesus taught in the parable of the new wine in old wineskins, our struggles with outward appearances can be like pouring new wine into old containers. Just as the new wine would burst the old skins, our journey with clothing and self-expression can lead to a transformation of our inner selves.
