Is Call of Duty a Sin?

I’ve often wondered about the line between harmless entertainment and potentially sinful activities. As a mom, I’ve seen my kids enjoy video games like Call of Duty, and I’ve even played a few rounds with them to bond. I saw this talk with an actual group of Christian gamers.

While the violence can be concerning, I’ve never felt it influenced our real-world behavior or values. Still, I sometimes worry if engaging with fictional combat scenarios could desensitize us or go against Christian teachings of peace. I’d love to hear others’ thoughts on balancing modern entertainment with our faith.

As Christians, we should approach gaming just like any other activity.

While games like Call of Duty aren’t inherently sinful, we should be mindful of how they affect our hearts and behavior. We should always strive to honor God in how we spend our time and engage with others online.

I don’t think playing Call of Duty is inherently sinful, as long as it doesn’t become an obsession or negatively impact your faith and values. ? It’s just a game, after all.

The key is moderation and keeping God first in your heart. Enjoy bonding with your kids as long as you can separate fiction from reality and it’s not causing you to stumble! Amen. ?

I’ve been thinking about this too. Is it wrong to enjoy games like CoD as a Christian? I try to keep God first in my life, but sometimes I worry if I’m spending too much time gaming. What do you all think - can we play these games in moderation and still honor our faith?

You know… I often find myself pausing… and thinking… “What would Jesus do?”… It’s like… imagining Him right here… beside me… guiding my choices… It helps me… stay on the right path… you know?..

Lord, thank You for the incredible freedom You’ve given us through Christ’s sacrifice. Help us to use that freedom wisely, focusing on loving You and loving others rather than getting caught up in debates over specific activities like video games.

The apostle Paul’s words remind us that our intentions and hearts matter deeply. If you’re approaching this activity with pure motives—like bonding with friends or harmless relaxation—it may well be okay. However, if you feel a sense of unease or conviction about it, it’s wise to listen to that inner voice.
