Is The Action Bible Worth It?

Has anyone seen the Action Bible? It’s basically a graphic novel retelling of Scripture.

Some might dismiss at as just for kids but visual storytelling has always been my thing, so it grabbed me immediately.

I think it could make the Bible a lot more accessible for people.

Does anyone else think the Action Bible is worth it?

This is it for anyone not familiar.

I think it is worth it.

The pictures make it a lot easier to get into. Sergio Cariello’s artwork is detailed and full of energy. It covers the whole Bible, from creation through Revelation, so you get more than the usual famous stories. Ezra and Haggai are in there, along with the period of exile. Four Gospels are combined into one continuous account of Jesus’ life, and then it moves on through the rest of the New Testament.

If you connect with stories visually, or you’re looking for something for a kid, it’s a good way to see how everything fits together. Just keep in mind that this is a retelling. It condenses and paraphrases a lot, so it gives you an understanding of the story and can lead a lot of people to the Church to learn more but it isn’t normal Scripture with pictures.

Worth it. Bought it for my nephew and ended up reading the whole thing myself, I’d only ever read the Old Testament stories in pieces before.

It skips a lot of passages though, so keep a regular Bible open next to it.

Worth what I paid for the narrative books. The journeys in Acts were easier to picture once I could see the places drawn out.

Letters less so. Something gets lost when the arguments get shortened.

Is this mainly for your own reading? The battle and crucifixion scenes are pretty intense if you’re handing it to a younger kid. Worth it if you process stories visually though.
