Tips From Christian Homeschoolers on Curriculum?

I’ve been looking into faith-based curriculum options and there’s just a lot to sort through and I think I’m getting mixed up. What tips do Christian homeschoolers have for choosing a curriculum and including Bible study?

The real pros and cons from families who’ve committed to something, that’s what I need before I lock anything in for the year.

Most of our Bible teaching happens in ordinary moments, not the curriculum. We started with an all-in-one Christian program and by year three the Bible content had gotten shallow and repetitive.

Try a few weeks before you commit to a full year of anything.

Try before you buy. Check each publisher’s statement of faith and the Bible translation they use to see if it matches what you believe, then try a sample week and take the placement tests. Grade labels alone can be misleading.

A full Christian package keeps things consistent and convenient, but the doctrine runs through all of it, history and science included.

This might help!

If you’re trying to figure out the trade-offs before committing to a full year, watch it. You’ll still want to hear from families who’ve used these programs long-term, though.

The most useful part for me was the comparison between buying individual video courses and going with an all-in-one program. Memoria Press has streaming lessons with lifetime access, but you buy the textbooks separately. Monarch is a bigger package and does a lot of the grading for you.
