Why Do I Feel Like God Has Abandoned Me?

I found myself at rock bottom, feeling utterly abandoned by God.

Years of anger and rebellion had taken their toll, and I’d pushed Him away countless times. The emptiness that followed was unbearable, a void nothing else could fill. I spent nights crying out in prayer, desperate to feel His presence again, but only silence greeted me. In those moments of utter despair, I realized how much I truly needed Him.

The weight of my past mistakes crushed me, and I longed to show God how I’d changed and how much I valued His love now. But the distance between us felt insurmountable, and I wondered if I’d ever feel His warmth again.

It feels like God has abandoned me and I don’t know why.

Friend, I’ve been where you are, and I want you to know that even when God feels distant, He’s still holding onto you - like a shepherd who leaves the 99 to find the one lost sheep, He’s actively seeking to restore you to His presence.

God may feel distant at times, but He promises to never leave or forsake us. Even in our darkest moments, He is there - we just need to keep reaching out to Him in faith.

I know it feels like God has abandoned you, but remember that even in our darkest moments, He’s still there watching over us. Sometimes we may not feel His presence, but He sends His angels to guard and guide us, even when we can’t see or sense them.

Friend, I know that feeling of abandonment all too well. But just as the sun still shines behind storm clouds, God’s love remains even when we can’t feel it.

Like a seed buried in dark soil, this difficult season may be preparing you for new growth. Keep reaching out to Him - your roots will eventually break through to find Living Water again.

Thank you for sharing your heart. God hasn’t abandoned you - He’s right there, waiting with open arms, just as He was for Peter, Paul, and David when they stumbled; keep reaching out to Him, even when it feels hopeless, and trust that His love for you is unchanging.

My friend, I know it feels like God has abandoned you, but He is still there, loving you through this pain.

Even in your darkest moments, when His presence seems distant, remember that He understands your struggles and will never truly forsake you - take courage and keep reaching out to Him.

Friend, I’ve been where you are - feeling distant from God. But remember, He’s always there, even when we can’t feel Him. Keep praying, keep seeking, and trust that His love never fails.

I understand your struggle with faith. Some days I feel God’s presence strongly, other times He seems distant. But Scripture reminds us, ‘The Lord is near to all who call on him’ (Psalm 145:18).

Even when we can’t sense Him, He’s still there. This journey of faith isn’t always easy, but I believe God is working in your life, even in the quiet moments. As Jeremiah 29:11 says, He has plans to give you hope and a future. Keep seeking Him - your faith will grow stronger through these challenges.

Wow! I totally get what you’re going through! It’s been years since I felt God’s presence too. I’ve cried, screamed, begged… nothing seems to work! Sometimes I wonder if He’s even there anymore?

But you know what? If God’s real, He can do whatever He wants, right? Maybe this is just how things are supposed to be for now. I’ve had to accept that and find peace somehow! It’s very hard, but I try to believe it’s all part of His plan - even if I don’t understand it!

Hang in there, friend! You’re not alone in this struggle! We can get through it together, with or without feeling His presence!

Hey there

I get where you’re coming from. My mom often talks about being mad at God, too. But she says He can handle it - He knows her heart and loves her no matter what. It’s usually because she’s not at peace with herself when she’s angry.

Maybe try focusing on self-care for a bit. Do things that lift your spirits, like getting out in nature :evergreen_tree:, learning something new :books:, or being creative :art:. When you’re in a better headspace, feeling God’s love is easier.

Remember, He’s there for you even in the tough times . Hang in there!

God’s love remains constant, even when we can’t feel it. As C.S. Lewis said, ‘Though our feelings come and go, God’s love for us does not.’ In times of suffering, it’s natural to question His presence, but remember Mother Teresa’s words: ‘I have found the paradox, that if you love until it hurts, there can be no more hurt, only more love.’

Keep moving forward, even through the pain. Often, it’s only when we look back that we understand the purpose of our struggles. As Corrie ten Boom wisely noted, ‘When a train goes through a tunnel and it gets dark, you don’t throw away the ticket and jump off. You sit still and trust the engineer.’

You’re in my prayers. Take comfort in knowing that God’s love is constant, and as Revelation 21:5 promises, He will ‘make all things new.’

‘Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus’ (1 Thessalonians 5:18).

When feelings of abandonment overwhelm us, we can turn to gratitude as a balm for our souls. Each day, strive to list three blessings, no matter how small they may seem. As we cultivate this practice, we open our hearts to perceive God’s presence in our lives, for as the Psalmist reminds us, ‘The Lord is near to all who call on him’ (Psalm 145:18).

Consider trying a new form of worship (or meditation, if that’s more your speed). Sometimes, changing how we connect with God can bring a renewed sense of His presence.

‘For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many’ (Mark 10:45). Have you ever considered seeking God’s presence through community service? Volunteering can offer a profound sense of connection and purpose. By serving others, you might discover God’s love in action and see how He works through you to touch lives.

As it is written in Galatians 5:13, ‘You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.’
