Can Willful Sins Be Forgiven?

For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins

Hebrews 10:26

Someone who knowingly sinned, maybe for years, and wants to come back to God. Is there any evidence that willful sins can be forgiven?

Yes, willful sins can be forgiven. David planned Bathsheba out over weeks and Psalm 51 shows him being forgiven, hard to get more deliberate than that.

The next few verses in Hebrews describe people who’ve trampled the Son of God underfoot and treated His blood as unholy… a person grieving over their sin is in a different spot.

Yes, if someone repents and turns back to God. Manasseh spent years doing deliberate, terrible evil, and when he finally humbled himself and prayed God heard him (2 Chronicles 33:1-13).

I’d like to hear how a view that makes all deliberate sin unforgivable deals with Manasseh.

Yes. Willful sins can be forgiven.

Jesus told people to forgive the same person seventy-seven times (more on that here). That would be a strange thing to ask if God shut the door the first time a sin was on purpose. The prodigal son picked the life he ended up in and still got the robe when he came home.

I knew exactly what I was doing and did it anyway, then came back later. More times than I’d admit on a testimony video.
