Which Bible Translation Is Best to Read?

What is the best Bible translation to read alongside the KJV? I’m currently somewhere in Paul’s letters to the Corinthians, and the older English is beautiful but it can be hard to follow sometimes.

I’d go with the NLT alongside your KJV.

KJV for the wording, NLT to follow where Paul’s argument is going (more on that here). Helps in Corinthians especially.

ESV I think. It keeps the formal, word-for-word feel but in modern English. If the dense stretches still trip you up the NIV or CSB will smooth things out.

The KJV says ‘charity’ in 1 Corinthians 13 which today sounds like giving money but Paul means love. The NKJV says ‘love’ which actually makes sense.
