Brothers and sisters in Christ, I’ve been wrestling with questions about intimacy in marriage.
Just as God blessed Solomon and his wife in Song of Solomon with the freedom to express their love, I believe He gives married couples similar freedom within the covenant of marriage. The Bible is clear about sins like adultery, as shown in David’s transgression with Bathsheba, but seems to give married couples considerable liberty in expressing their love.
Paul describes marriage in Ephesians as Christ’s relationship with the church - pure, devoted, and intimate- and it helps me understand that marital intimacy is a gift to be cherished. Like the sacred space of the marriage bed, the intimate moments between husband and wife are protected and blessed by God’s design. I’ve found peace in knowing that just as Adam and Eve were “naked and unashamed” before the fall, married couples today can experience that same freedom in their physical expression of love.
What matters most, I believe, is that both spouses feel comfortable, respected, and that their intimacy draws them closer to each other and to God.
